A bread roll (Czech: houska, also žemle; regionally bandur or bandor) is a type of soft baked product, most commonly made from wheat flour and oval in shape. Traditionally, the rolls were braided from several strands of dough, creating their characteristic surface pattern. This type of roll is known as a pletýnka or pletynka. Today, bread rolls are more often made by pressing, which imitates this pattern; this type is called a raženka. Both types are usually topped with salt and seasonings such as poppy, caraway, or sesame seeds.
