Almonds are the kernels inside the stones of the almond tree's fruit, a type of nut-like fruit grown in subtropical regions. Almond trees are related to apricot and peach trees. Opinions differ on where wild almond trees originated, and there may have been several regions. Some sources identify Central Asia, Persia, and China, while others suggest Asia Minor and North Africa. Almonds were also present in Greece in antiquity. Apart from industrial uses, almonds are most commonly eaten as a snack with wine, but they are also used in more elaborate dishes such as salads and Christmas baked goods. They are eaten with their brown skin, blanched, or ground.
